Comical Conversations

Overhead one day from the other room...

Scott:  Do you know where you're going to go when you're 100 and you fly away? 

Natalie:  I will go see Kaylee.  (One of her friends who moved away)

Scott:  No...you will go and be with God and Jesus. 

Natalie:  I only like Kaylee!

Scott:  More than God and Jesus?  You can't, Natalie, because then she would be an idol.  Even though you don't worship her, she's an idol to you.  Come to my room, and I'll teach you more about it. 

Scott is so funny when he doesn't mean to be.  He got in the car one day last week after preschool and said that a little girl in his class was starting to annoy him.  When I asked him why he said, "She keeps putting different parts of her body in front of my eye, but I try to avoid that."  Keep up the good work, son! :)

Me:  Natalie, you need to use the restroom before bed.
Natalie:  (Stomping off to the potty) But Mommy, I'm getting tired of obeying you!

 A fun trip to the park...welcome spring!

We have this toy kitchen complete with an oven, stove, pots, pans, etc.  However, it doesn't get too much play time.  The kids just don't know what to do with such things.  So then...

They got this diner.  They've been right at home and have been playing restaurant with it nonstop.  Hmm...I guess you can draw your own conclusions. 

Natalie put on some new shoes and was complaining that they were uncomfortable.  I told her that she had to break them in.  She didn't understand what "break them in" meant and so I explained.  A couple of hours later Natalie suddenly exclaimed, "Mommy!  They're cracked in!"  It took me a minute to figure out what she was talking about, but once I made the connection between break & crack, I had to laugh!

Journaling- Preschool Style

I recently read a book from the library (well...started to read...when is the last time I finished a book anyway?) that stressed the importance of preserving memories for your children.  I searched for a doable option and found these fun kid journals.  Each day, I ask the kids a question and record their responses in their journals.  I will ask them the same question on a particular date three years in a row, and then can see how their answers change over the years.  I've only done this for a month, but I think this is something that I will stick with and will provide a lot of laughs for them in the future.  The kids love to answer their questions for the day and will often remind me to ask them.  Here are a few examples...

(A few of the questions are a bit odd and need modification...not Christian per se, but for the most part they are fine.)

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORT?  WHY?
Scott- Whatever the Colts play...what do they play?  (Football)  Okay...then football because footballs don't roll and the Colts play it.

WHAT DO YOU REALLY LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF TODAY?
Natalie- My hair and talking about myself

WHEN DO YOU FEEL PEACEFUL AND CALM?
Scott- When I'm in the bathtub

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEK TO KEEP YOUR BODY STRONG AND HEALTHY?
Natalie- Eat pizza

Picture Catch Up!

 

There is a LARGE ice tree just down the street from our house.  We've enjoyed watching it grow and change colors throughout the "ice season."  It can melt now.  

The kids are all starting to play together which is great fun to watch.  Here they made a boat and were pretending to sail the seas. 

You may recall when Scott read this book as a baby.  He only made it to Chapter 5.  Kate polished the book off in one setting.  She is a handful!!!

 One day I might get excited when they ask to help me clean...one day...

Lively rounds of Ring Around the Rosie and London Bridges with Grandpa, Grandma, and the cousins- lots of giggling!

 It was cute to see all five of them gathered around the ipad. 

If the older kids have the art supplies out, Kate is all over it.  She has to get in on the action and will go to great lengths to get the markers.  AHHH!

Where's the supervision?

For some reason, Kate refused to eat her Cheerios, banana, and milk this morning.  I guess she had a different breakfast idea in mind...

 No, Eve.  I do not want a bite too.

Shove it in fast, Kate.  This impromptu picnic is about to be cut short.

Snowmen...kind of

The kids have been dying to make a snowman this winter with their new snowman kit.  With a near record breaking snowfall season, you'd think this would have been easy.  However, between illness, crazy schedules, extreme cold, or snow that just wouldn't pack, they haven't been able to build a proper snowman.  We thought this latest snowfall would be our chance, but despite a few attempts, the snow just wasn't the right consistency.  So...they did the next best thing and decorated a drawn snowman on the ground.  Look closely.  

Little Miss Kate and I once again stayed inside and had our own snowman fun. 

Okay...pretty cute, but we're over it.  Away with the snowmen.  Ready to move on to spring now. 

Out with the Mom Jeans

On Monday, my sweet friend Molly and I were able to meet up for a day of shopping, eating, catching up, and relaxing.  It was WONDERFUL.  

Prior to meeting, I had suggested we attempt going into a Goodwill to see if I could find any treasures to sell on ebay. 

Molly suggested that we get facials and pedicures.  (EEK!)

Opposites attract?!  We compromised and ended up at Hobby Lobby and the mall.  :)

A few weeks back, Molly had not-so-subtly sent me a online video/test regarding "mom jeans."  Guilty.  Point taken.  Help me, Molly!  So that was a must during the time together.  Like a pro, she took me straight to American Eagle, and I got myself a cool pair of jeans.  Molly told me not to wear them to parent-teacher conferences. They are THAT cool.  :)  She asked if I'd be interested in looking at skinny jeans or jeggings, but I'm not quite there yet.  Baby steps, Molly, baby steps.  

As usual, we forgot to take pictures of our time together, but I did get some of the kids when I got home.  They seemed much cuter and picture worthy after a day away.  :)  Molly sent them this adorable little talking puppy that they've named Sophie in honor of Molly's goldendoodle.
