January or July?

The Lord has blessed us with some BEAUTIFUL days as of late! We've played outside, blown bubbles, and made the most of the sunshine! Scott even asked us yesterday if we could get down the kiddie pool. (Let's give it a few more degrees, Buddy.)





The winter hats were more for me than the kids...after all, it is still January (despite our car thermometer reading 60 degrees).

Natalie meets her hero!


She was enamored by the little red monster.

Scott played the role quite well...for awhile. He then started to take the "monster" role a little bit too seriously. His sweet hugs and gentle handshakes turned to tight squeezes and forceful take downs. Natalie must have been confused!

Jon's mom took us to see a large train exhibit at the state fairgrounds a couple of weeks ago. After some coaxing, the kids rode on Thomas the Train and both loved it. Natalie started to whine when the ride came to an end.

Natalie asked for more apple, and I was praising her hoping to put some peer pressure on her finicky brother.
Me: Natalie, it's good that you like apples. Apples are good for you. They make you grow healthy and strong. Scott, do you like apples too?
Scott: Not at all.


Here Natalie is either saying "Boo!" or "No!"

She says both of these words a lot and they are usually exaggerated and emphatic.

Scott: I wonder what Natalie's up to. Since she's being so quiet, it's making me nervous. (Hmm...perhaps I've said something like this a few times before??!)


Scott's new "thinking" expression

Scott was very disturbed by the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty the other day.
Scott: Could they fix Humpty?
Me: Well...no...the rhyme says that he was broken.
Scott: (Looking upset) But how will he go to heaven?
(Followed by about 10 more questions about broken Humpty and heaven.)

Straight from Scott

*I was driving the kids to the store while Scott was firing questions at me one right after another. I was doing my best to answer them until he transitioned to his questions about power lines again. AHHH!! Since I was about ready to pull out my hair, I said, "Scott, I don't know! You ask some hard questions." To which he thoughtfully replied, "Maybe some questions are better for Daddy, instead?" Excellent deduction, Scott!:)

*Scott got an apple out of the refrigerator to eat and asked, "Do I take the antenna of the apple off first?"

*"Let's sit on the love couch."

*I saw the porch light on and saw Scott standing by the switch. He knows he is not supposed to flip it on!
Me: Scott, did you just turn on that light outside?
Scott (lying, but in the sweetest voice possible): No. I didn't turn on that light outside, but thanks for asking me.



*Word Mix Up
Me: Scott! This is your last warning!
Scott: But if it's my last morning, then will I go to heaven?

*Scott: Will you come ride on my train?
Me: In a few minutes, Sweetie.
Scott: But I'm not a sweetie. I'm a conductor.


*I was making out my grocery list the other day when Scott came up to me in all seriousness and said, "Add wood to your list." When I asked why he told me that he needed it to build himself a bunk bed.


*Scott continues to sleep and play with his friend "Bear". The other day we were looking for the beloved friend when Scott seriously said, "Hmmm. I hope Bear's not up to any trouble." (See Bear in hand in the picture below.)

*After saying his verses to me, Scott said that he wanted to make up a new one. He said, "Keep your button from unbuttoning and keep your cabinet from opening up. Low TT" (I think Low TT was supposed to be the reference.) Perhaps we should leave the verse writing up to God.

Oh...who doesn't love a three year old?!

Sacred Parenting by Gary Thomas

What a book! I just finished (yes, that's right) this excellent book recommended to me by a dear friend. It's not your normal how to parenting book, but instead describes "how raising children shapes our souls." After reading the first couple of chapters, I immediately ordered myself a copy. I'm not sure of the last book that I actually wanted to own for myself (so this says a lot!). It's a book my friend says she feels as if she wants to read yearly, and I can certainly see why. Has anyone else read this book? I'm returning it to the library tomorrow, so if you live around here, check it out! :) Besides from the Bible, what is the best non-fiction book that you've ever read? I may stick with this reading thing, and I'm open to suggestions.

David Nevue

I stumbled upon an instrumental pianist the other day while online. I clicked on someone's blog, and she had the most beautiful music playing. After doing some research, I found that it was music by David Nevue. I did something else I never do...I ordered one of his CDs. The last CD I bought was probably back when Point of Grace was cool or something. So...once again, this says a lot! :)



So those are my top picks for today. Reading books and listening to instrumental music...I can't decide if this makes me feel super intelligent or super old. I'm off to brew me up some coffee. (Or perhaps eat another gummy worm instead.)
