Last month, we celebrated Scott's 12th birthday. He continues to grow like a weed and looks more like a 15 year old. He now wears a size 10 men's shoe! Scott and I are within an inch of each other, and I'm guessing he will pass me before too long.
Scott has seemed to really mature in some areas this year. For one, he
has taken on more responsibility in some household chores. Perhaps this
is a normal part of growing up, but since he's my firstborn, it has
been interesting how this process just seems to be happening on its own. Sure, I
still do my share of nagging about certain things, but in some other
areas, he has just taken on full responsibility. I no longer have to
tell him to pick up things or clean his room. He even vacuums and has
become a bit obsessed with furniture polish!:) He asked me to teach him
how to do laundry, keeps his desk organized, and helps with all of our
technical issues. During our "church at home" time, Scott would always
have the sermons pulled up on the TV screen for us to watch- often
before we even got out of bed.
The other day, I tried to show him how to clean out the outside
laundry vent and told him that it would be helpful if he checked it from
time to time. It was empty however, and I came to find out, he had
been emptying it for me for several months now. Similarly, for vacation
this year, he took it upon himself again to pack the electronic charges
and cables for everyone's devices. I didn't even double check his
packing. When we'd get to the hotel each night, he totally took care of
charging everyone's device.
Moreover, we've watched Scott develop the discipline of having a daily
quiet time. It's never something he has to be reminded to do. He just
does it! Hopefully it continues as a lifelong habit of being in God's Word!
Lest you think he's perfect, he still hasn't mastered the art of cleaning up Scout's messes, sitting still during a home haircut, or resisting the urge to tease his sisters from time to time. We'll work on that this coming year!
I wore both of these t-shirts when I was in college!
We are all thankful for Scott and love him dearly!
